26 lakh People Affected As Heavy Rains Cause Deluge In Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya: All Major Rivers In Bihar Flowing Above Danger Mark Affecting Over 25 Lakh People.

.AS flood situation in Assam continued to deteriorate with the water level rising in Guwahati and several districts in Bihar are being flooded, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed  the concentred central Ministers  to provide unstinted cooperation in     rescue and relief  operation to the affected states. River Brahmaputra flowing through Guwahati, the North-east’s premier metropolis, crossed the danger mark on Monday.Sadikul Haq of Central Water Commission told ANI, “Water is flowing 1.5 cm above danger level and it is increasing 2-3 cm per hour. The rising water level can be a danger for the city.”So far, 11 people have died in Assam floods this year while incessant rains continue to pound the state. 31 of the 33 districts in Assam have been affected by the current spell of heavy rain. Over 26.5 lakh people have been affected in the flood situation that is worsening every hour.PM Narendra Modi spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday and took stock of the flood situation in the state. Sonowal briefed PM Modi about the situation in Assam while the Prime Minister assured Sonowal of all assistance from the central government in dealing with the situation. Barpeta is the worst-hit district with 7.35 lakh people facing the flood fury, followed by Morigaon where 3.50 lakh people are hit. In Dhubri district, 3.38 lakh people are affected, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said. About 70 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park, the habitat of the Great Indian Rhino and a world heritage site, has also been affected.In Meghalaya, rising waters of the Brahmaputra and the Jinjiram rivers have life thrown out of gear for 1.14 lakh people across 164 villages. 26 lakh people affected as heavy rains cause deluge, Tripura, Meghalaya also affected. The flood situation in Bihar continued to remain grim on Tuesday with over 2.5 million people affected in 12 districts, officials said. In the last 24 hours, all the major rivers were flowing above the danger level, leading to embankment breaches. There were reports of fresh floods in three new districts of Saharsa, Katihar and Purnea. However, Water Resources Department officials said the water level in rivers originating in Nepal was likely to decrease as rain in those areas have stopped. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made an aerial survey of the affected Seemanchal and Koshi region on Sunday and Monday. He will inform the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday about the situation.196 relief camps have been set up in the affected areas with 644 community kitchens providing food to the displaced people.

The Disaster Management Department said relief and rescue operations were continuing in the flood-affected areas. A total of 26 companies of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and Seema Sashatra Bal have been deployed to carry out the operations.
