AFTER PM Modi & Amit Shah, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigns In Assam

CONGRESS   General  Secretary  Priyanka Gandhi  Vadra  campaigned for  sitting  party’s    MP  Sushmita Dev in Southern Assam’s Barak Valley on Sunday  as West Bengal based TMC  has  launched a vigorous  attempt to woo the Bangla speaking voters  in the region.AICC  President Rahul Gandhi and Congress Leader Navjot Singh  Sidhu had earlier campaigned for Dev .UNI says Gandhi has assured her of ministerial  berth if the party formed government at the centre. She is close to the Nehru-Gandhi family. She also participated in a massive road show along with Dev, daughter of Sontosh Mohan Dev, who was a central Minister in UPA regime. Sushmita Dev, the first time MP from Barak Valley, is President of All India Mahila Congress. The Barak Valley comprising three districts has two Lok Sabha seats-Karimganj (SC) and Silchar. An Estimated 4 million people reside in the three districts of the valley. Both Congress and TMC are trying to take advantage of the NRC and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. While Dev is a sitting MP from Silchar, Radheshyam Biswas of All India United Democratic Front is the sitting MP from Karimganj.

Municipal and Urban Development Minister and Mayor of Kolkata Firhad Hakim has urged voters of Barak Valley to support his party candidates.

Addressing a public meeting in Silchar on Monday, Hakim said “TMC will win all the seats in West Bengal. If people in other states also extend their support and trust, we assure that we shall stand behind the oppressed and the common masses. We have fielded candidates for eight seats across Assam, and Barak Valley voters should elect the two TMC candidates in Silchar and Karimganj seats and strengthen our hands.”TMC will play a decisive role in the formation of the next government at the Centre, he said. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also shared her message to the people of Barak Valley over phone, saying, “We had committed to stand behind the 40 lakh people left out of the NRC draft list and we are rooted to our promise.”Hitabrata Roy has been nominated to contest on TMC ticket from Silchar while Chandan Das is the party’s face in Karimganj (SC) Parliamentary seat(edited by Pranab Kumar Chakravarty with inputs from The Assam Tribune).
