BILASPUR born Yami Gautam ,has slowly and steadily established her status as a film actor in Bollywood, India’s Mecca of film personalities. The model turned actor has also acted in several South Indian movies. She still promotes some products as brand ambassador. She is of the view that no one should be over excited over success of his or her movie or remain upset when her or his films fail at the box office. After failures of some movies, she never feared being written off. The actor says she will keep giving her best till the time she fulfils her dreams. She was taken note of by film makers after she made a memorable debut with the National Award winning Vicky Donor in 2012. Unfortunately, some of her projects after the acclaimed film except for Badlapur and Kaabil could not click at the box office.
When films involving me didn’t work, I never feared being written off. I had other fears to deal with. I attend events and scribes ask me about some movies starring me which were not commercially successful. Should I weep or hit them when they ask madam what is your reaction to your failed movies?”I have matured enough to handle such provocative queries putting the onus for the failure of a movie. on me. There are several reasons for an unsuccessful film as Yami said.I am dedicated to my career and won’t quit until I achieve my dream, she said.
Industry circles watching her say post the success of Vicky Donor, Yami was suddenly in the spotlight, but the actor says it took her time to adapt to the new life.“I think adaptability is really important in the industry specially when you’re a newcomer and are not conditioned to this kind of setup. I was never the street-smart kind; I would never express myself so easily.”
In her next movie, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, Yami will be seen as a lawyer .Directed by Shree Narayan Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar; the film is about electricity theft in rural India. Consumers are billed even for not consuming bijli which is often pilfered by influential people at the cost of common people. It is entirely a new role being played by me,Yami said responding to a query.
“What I’m doing here is something I haven’t done in any other film. I’ve realised it’s very dated to calculate your role or your screen presence. The impact of your role matters.”Principal photography of Batti Gul Meter Chalu commenced in February 2018 in Uttarakhand and was wrapped up in July 2018.It is scheduled for release on 21 September, said the producer.
