CMS Of Telangana, Andhra & Maharashtra Inaugurate Multipurpose Kaleshwaram Project In Telangana


THE Kaleshwaram project, claimed to be the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation scheme and boon to Telangana people, was inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with his Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra counterparts at Medigadda in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district on Friday, June 21. The scheme is intended to provide irrigation facility to 45 lakh acres for two crops, and it will provide water to the ambitious Mission Bhagiratha drinking water supply project. The project would also help in supplying drinking water to one crore population in Greater Hyderabad on a daily basis, as also 16 TMC of water to thousands of industries in the state, an official communiqué said. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh were present on the occasion when the Medigadda barrage constructed at an estimated Rs 80,000 crore on the holy Godavari at a record speed. Recalling its origin in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Fadnavis said it is a gift of the people of Maharashtra to their neighbours who badly needed this multipurpose project. The Godavari River   flows through Telangana before merging with the sea in Andhra Pradesh. Rao and his wife participated in ‘Jala Sankalpa Mahotsava Yogam’ at the Medigadda barrage earlier. Medigadda Barrage is the starting point of the irrigation project which envisages construction of three barrages between Yellampally and Medigadda. The Telangana Chief Minister along with his wife also participated in the yagna being performed at Medigadda barrage. It will also help hydel power generation and supply 16 TMC of water to industries in the southern state   . The Kaleshwaram irrigation project was inaugurated with the three Chief Ministers, and Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan participating in a series of programmes at the project site in Jaishankar Bhupalpally district, near the borders with Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. This is the event for which the Telangana Chief Minister reportedly missed the NITI Aayog meeting on Saturday as well as the all-party meeting to discuss “one nation, one poll”, both of which were chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. KCR had reportedly wanted to invite PM Modi for the grand event but when asked about it, he said it was not necessary to invite the Prime Minister for every big project.”KCR” and his wife performed yagna (ritual) ahead of the inauguration praying  to the sacred Godavari River for blessing  children with water in abundance.KCR invited Mr Fadnavis after Maharashtra extended full cooperation for the construction of the project. In 2016, the two states signed agreements to solve inter-state disputes, paving the way for the mega project. Participation of Andhra Pradesh Chie Jagan Reddy is significant as both the Telugu states have resolved to solve disputes over sharing of waters of Godavari and Krishna rivers through dialogue.
