EC Stops Screening Of PM Modi’s Biopic Till Conclusion of the Ongoing LS Poll

IN the wake of objections received from several opposition parties, The Election Commission of India on April 10 issued an order stopping   release of Vivek Oberoi starrer PM Narendra Modi movie till the 2019 Lok Sabha elections are over. The Bollywood movie was scheduled to hit the theatres on April 11. “Any biopic that subs serves purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in electronic media.”The EC I said in its order .The first phase of the seven phases  Lok Sabha elections commences  on April 11.The Supreme Court Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by a Congress activist seeking stay on the release of the biopic and said the Election Commission would be an “appropriate” place to seek the redressal. A Bench of the Supreme Court of India headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi declined to entertain the petition for the stay on the release of the film as it was “premature” since the movie is yet to be certified by the Central Board of Film Certification. It said even if the film is released on April 11, as claimed by the Congress activist, it will be appropriate for him to seek a redressal from the Election Commission.
