INDIA’s Top Cricketer Mohammed Shami Booked For Domestic Violence: Delhi Daredevils Worried About His Participation In Coming IPL

MOHAMMED Shami, India’s national cricketer, who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket, is in a soup after The Kolkata Police on Friday booked him and four others under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint lodged by his wife for domestic violence and infidelity .An FIR has been registered against Shami and his four other family members. The cricketer’s wife Hasin Jahan, an ex-model and his girl friend, had alleged that Shami, who is a native of Uttar Pradesh and residing in Kolkata, abused her physically and mentally. Shami has refuted all the allegations and said that someone was misleading his wife. Shami has been accused of an attempted murder by his wife. In January 2018, he was bought by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL auction. Shami was dropped from a list of contracted players for the national team announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on 8 March. He denied his wife’s allegations earlier this week. The charges as per the FIR lodged in South Kolkata’s Jadavpur Police Station against the player, who has represented India 87 times in all formats of cricket since 2012, carry prison terms of 10 years or more.  Jahan has posted a series of messages that the cricketer had allegedly sent to women during their four-year marriage on her Facebook account. He has several affairs and “tortured me physically and mentally over and over again”, she said. Shami, who has won 30 Test caps, dismissed the claims, calling them “part of a big conspiracy” against him and “an attempt to defame” him.”What is being said about my personal life is completely false,” he wrote on Twitter.Ms Jahan has also filed a rape complaint against Mr Shami’s elder brother. Seven charges have been levelled against the India pacer, one of them being attempt to murder by “food poisoning and physical attack”. Shami has been charged under section 498 A, 323, 307, 376, 506, 328, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). To make the matters worse for the Indian fast bowler, he has found himself out of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI’s) 26-member annual contracts system. TOI reports Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils are keeping a close tab on the Shami controversy as the top officials are set to meet BCCI brass to take a stock of the situation after his wife Hasin Jahan filed a police complaint accusing him of domestic violence and adultery. The Indian Premier League is promoted by several noted corporate houses and Bollywood biggies. They for obvious reason are extremely conscious about their image.”In these sensitive times, when people are raising their voice against domestic abuse and violence, unless Shami comes out clean, the franchise’s image will also take a beating. If Delhi Daredevils are worried, they certainly have reasons to do so. They have created a brand and would be protective about that,” TOI quotes a senior BCCI official as saying. Anyway, his participation in the upcoming 11th edition of IPL remains uncertainty. (pic courtesy : Bigtown. com).
