Japan confers” The Order of Rising Sun “on Pabitra Sarkar, eminent Bengali multi-faceted personality

Linguist and grammarian Pabitra Sarkar has been awarded by the Imperial Japanese government its third highest civilian honour. Former PM Manmohan Singh, scientist CNR Rao and “Metro Man” E Sreedharan are the only Indians to have received the honour. This is the first time that the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, has been given to an eminent Bong personality. He bags the coveted award for his life-long   endeavour for strengthening Indo-Japanese friendship through his literary works. He has written extensively on Japan and India.  He visited Tokyo University several times   on his projects for establishing linguistic similarities between Bangla and Japanese languages. Consul General of Japan Masayuki Taga hosted the Conferment Ceremony for Prof. Pabitra Sarkar on 15 July 15 in Kolkata .In his Conferment speech ,  Taga expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the continual contribution made by Prof. Pabitra Sarkar in promoting friendship , goodwill, and mutual understanding between Japan and India for a long time since his first visit to Japan in 1973 .Prof. Pabitra Sarkar , 83, expressed  sincere gratitude to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan , the people and the Government of Japan for the gracious conferment of the Imperial decoration. He also expressed his love for Japan and lessons learned from his experience in Japan which had a good impact on his work and later life.
