Nehru was wrong on J&K, Sardar Patel was right: Ravi Shankar Prasad

UNION Law & Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that country’s first Deputy Prime Minister “Sardar Patel was right and Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister doubling as Minister for External Affairs, was wrong in respect of Jammu and Kashmir. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1987-1950) who is credited with integrating then about 562 princely states including those with geopolitical significance with the Union of India, was right and Nehru was wrong. A historical blunder was committed.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the much needed political courage to correct that historical  blunder, he said while addressing a press conference at historical Ahmedabad on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.Parliament on August 5 revoked Article 370 which gave special provisions to Jammu and Kashmir. Later in the day, while addressing a BJP Rashtriya Ekta Samelan, the minister said that Sardar Patel was never in favour of giving special rights to Jammu and Kashmir. Prasad said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked a question as to how people of Jammu and Kashmir benefitted under   Article 370 in Parliament. It was a temporary provision but continued till it was revoked. Home Minister Amit Shah has also announced that after the removal of Articles of 370 and 35-A economically backward people will be provided reservation facilities. He also informed that 106 laws apply in Jammu and Kashmir after its special provisions were scrapped. Ravi Shankar Prasad said “The decision to abrogate Article 370 is historic, is courageous, is far-reaching and is also in the interest of Jammu and Kashmir and also India”.
