HOME Minister Amit Shah has accused the opposition of misleading the people, particularly the Muslim community,  over CAA and NPR saying no Indian will be deprived of his/her citizenship and no document will be needed for NPR.Replying to a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, March 12 related to Delhi riots, HM Shah said all those who will be found guilty of involvement in the riots which claimed 53 lives, will be punished under the relevant laws irrespective of caste, religion and political affiliation.  He was prepared to discuss CAA and NPR with the opposition in his office, HM added. Responding to Kapil Sibal belonging to INC, HM Shah clarified that no one will be marked as Doubtful under the NPR which is a process for compiling biometric and demographic database of usual residents. These will be updated from April next simultaneously with the Census conducted every ten years.  HM Shah suggested that an Opposition delegation led by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad may visit him and sort out all the confusions pertaining to CAA, NPR and NRC. “I am always ready 9for discussion,” Shah said. “I will discuss all these at priority and urged the opposition members to stop spreading false information on these subjects as so many have already lost lives which is regrettable,” Shah said. Stoutly defending the Delhi Police which is under the Union Ministry in the Union Territory of Delhi, HM Shah said the allegation against them for remaining inactive during the riots is unfounded. They had acted professionally and was able to confine the violin to 4 per cent of land comprising 13 per cent of Delhiites. The amended citizenship act (CAA) approved by Parliament in December last seeks to grant citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist , Jain and Parsi communities who had compelling reasons to take shelter in India after leaving Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, their homelands, till 2014.It is part of NDA’s longstanding commitment to the electorate.HM Shah has repeatedly denied the propaganda that the CAA, NPR and NRC are linked.(edited by PKC)
