RENOVATED Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport At Agartala Will Be Opened Before Durga Puja

MAHARAJA Bir Bikram Airport at Agartala will be formally inaugurated with new interiors depicting key tourism spots of Tripura before Durga puja commencing from October 14.It has been decided after Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met Airports Authority of India Chairman Guruprasad Mahapatra and his senior officials at New Delhi.  CM has convinced them about highlighting the tourists destinations on the airport’s interior decoration and renovation of some other airports in the NE state including Khowai. He also suggested increasing runway length of the Airport, besides the renovation of the terminal building, hanger, etc., to bring the airport up to international standard. Northeast Now also reports that Mahapatra, who called on Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday, informed the CM that a proposal for extension of runway would be sent to the Tripura Government shortly for its approval. AAI would repair and renovate Kailashahar airport in North district on priority basis and foundation stone laying programme will be held in December.AAI will go for a joint venture with the State Government to convert Khowai airport land measuring 64 acres into a housing complex. It was also decided that for developing a heliport at Kamalpur, AAI will submit a proposal as early as possible. CMD of ONGC Shashi Shankar also met the CM in Delhi and told him that the oil and gas giant giant has stepped up its exploration drive in Tripura. As of now, six rigs are operating in the State which was only three few months ago. ONGC will donate Rs 81 crore to make Tripura Open Defecation Free (ODF) by December 31, 2018 under its CSR activities, he said.
