SHEILA Dikshit, 3- Term Delhi CM & INC’s Most Popular Credible Woman Face, Is No More

Sheila Dikshit, the longest serving Chief Minister of Delhi and former union minister, passed away today in a Delhi hospital. She was 81.She was President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee till she breathed her last. In 2014, she was appointed Governor of Kerala by NDA Government but resigned after a few months. 

she is credited for changing the face of Delhi by Implementing several projects. Born in Kapurthala, Punjab, and educated in Delhi, Sheila Dikshit obtained her Graduation in Political Science from Miranda House affiliated to the University. She married Vinod Dikshit, son of Independence activist Uma Shankar Dikshit. She survived by son Sandip Dikshit, former MP from East Delhi and daughter Latika Dikshit Sayed. Her husband died of heart attack in train while coming from Lucknow. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkiah Naidu, BJP President Amit Shah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee among the prominent personalities who have conveyed condolence to the bereaved family. She was regularly treated for heart ailments in Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.  A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr Ashok Seth, chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilized temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55pm on July 20,” it added. Her body has been brought to her residence in Nizamuddin. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders paid tribute to her. 

Her body will be brought to Congress office tomorrow and the funeral will be held at 3 pm in Nigambodh Ghat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply saddened by the Dikshit demise. “Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development. Condolences to her family and supporters.” Dikshit was admitted to the Escorts Hospital a few days ago. She suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed her last around 3.55 pm on Saturday’ July 20. “Mrs Sheila Dixit was brought in the morning of July 20 to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okhla, in a critical condition with a cardiac arrest,” the hospital said in a statement.
