SOORMA, biopic On A Hockey Player, Will Hit Screens On July 13

THERE  is  heartening  news  from male dominated  Bollywood,  Mecca  for India’s  film industry, about  another  actress turning  film maker .Jodhpur born Chitrangada Singh, who works primarily in Hindi cinema starring in films like Yeh Saali Zindagi, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Desi Boyz, Inkaar, and I, Me Aur Main, is emerging in a new Avtar as  producer-writer in her  home production titled SOORMA .The model turned trained Kathak dancer says she is trying to recreate the real story of a hockey player. The daughter of an army officer says she was moved to hear his story about comeback as captain to win laurels for India from several international hockey events after he was wounded by a gunshot. He is indeed a real hero and hence I am convinced that the guy who made his motherland proud must be narrated on celluloid, she said .Soorma meaning Warrior is a Hindi biopic on hockey player Sandeep Singh directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Sony Pictures Networks India and C.S. Films.Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu are in the lead roles .Its trailer was released on 11 June 2018. Sandip Singh played by Diljit Dosanjh who remained paralyzed and used a wheelchair for two years after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2005. The film’s tagline is “The Greatest Comeback Story of the Hockey Legend Sandeep Singh”. Fighting against all odds, Sandeep got back on his feet and made a comeback to international hockey in 2008. India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under his captaincy and India qualified for the 2012 multinational Olympic Games held in London. The music of the 131 minute Hindi movie is composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy—the trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. They have composed music for over 50 soundtracks across five languages in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and English. Cinematography      is by Chirantan Das and it is edited by Farooq Hundekar. It is being distributed by Sony Pictures. Besides Diljit Dosanjh as Sandeep Singh and Tapsee Pannu as Harpreet as his dream girl,  other roles are played by  Angad Bedi as Bikramjeet Singh, the brother  of the  hockey  player, Siddharth Shukla as Harpreet’s Brother and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.Padmavat  famed Ranveer Singh was offered the role of Sandip Singh but he declined the offer citing lack of dates. The film was shot in Belgrade, Serbia, Chandigarh and other places.   Chitrangada being  the sister of a  golfer and whose ex-hubby was also a golfer, is sympathetic to players  and athletes .Hence ,it is not out of context to mention that she has taken extra care to recreate Sandip Singh’s  hopes and aspirations.
