WB CM Mamata Banerjee Will Meet PM Modi with A Basketful Of Demands

MAMATA Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday, September 18 after about one and a half years, has wished him on his 69th birth day.  Her planned meet with PM Modi amidst central agencies acting actively against those allegedly involved in Sarada, Narada and Rose Valley multimillion US dollar scams has sparked speculation in political circles. Many of them are allegedly associated with the ruling TMC. PM Modi and  Mamata Banerjee  had met last in May 2018 at a convocation ceremony of Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan.PM Narendra Modi is the Chancellor of Poet Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore   founded  university. The meet between PM Modi and his most vocal critic is slated around 1630 hrs IST tomorrow. Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, this will be the first meeting between them. Bengal media say they are likely to discuss several issues related to the problem ridden eastern state. These include the state’s longstanding demand for changing its name .The Trinamool Congress wants to change the name of the state from West Bengal to Bangla. The Central Government had not given assent for rechristening the state   during the budget session when a party delegation led by Sudip Bandopadhyay met PM Modi raising this issue. Banerjee had skipped the Prime Minister’s all-party meeting on “One Nation One Election” initiative. She stayed away saying that a day’s discussion was not enough to do justice to the issue. Earlier, she also skipped PM Modi’s swearing in ceremony. The agenda will also include the state’s intended takeover of the Dunlop factory, for which the President’s consent is awaited. The list also includes issues related to the MNREGA scheme and its funding.
