Thailand -India Business meet to boost bilateral trade
Thailand -India Business matching and networking meet held in three cities in India namely Kolkata- Siliguri -New Delhi recently. Thailand -India Business meet was organised by Office of Commercial Affairs , Royal Thai Embassy New Delhi , Department of International Trade Promotion , Ministry of Commerce , Thailand in collaboration with one of the India’s oldest chamber – Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Kolkata . Twelve Thai manufacturers and a large no of Indian manufacturers from West Bengal , Sikkim , Assam , Odisha , Uttar Pradesh , Rajasthan participated in the business matching & networking meet that began in Kolkata on 14th May 2019 . On 14May 2019, Ms. Sweeya Santipitaks, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, delivered an opening speech at Thailand – India Business Matching and Networking meet in Kolkata.
Mr. Tharadol Thongruang, Director of the Commercial Affairs Office, New Delhi, Royal Thai Embassy New Delhi said “Volume of trade between Thailand & India is growing year on year but their exist scope for enhancement of two way trade volume manifold .
Thailand & India have Free Trade Agreement . Thailand is member of ASEAN and India has Free Trade Agreement with ASEAN nations . Thailand can act as transit hub for trade of Indian goods and services to ASEAN nations . When India – Myanmar – Thailand Highway will be ready , it will facilitate trade between North East India and Thailand by Road . People of Thailand & people of North East of India have close cultural ties and similar food consumption lifestyle & practises . Kolkata is most important centre for trade with eastern India for Thailand ” Thai manufacturers of agricultural products , food & beverages , house hold products , textile and garments fashion accessories , foot wear participated in the business meet to network with India manufacturers , importers & exporters to explore collaboration opportunities in these sectors .
