Maharashtra plans to give 5% quota for Muslims in education

Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi government comprising Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress has proposed to provide extend five per cent reservation to Muslims in educational institutes. This was announced by Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik in the state legislative council on Friday. The state government will ensure that legislation to this effect is passed soon, the minister added and also assured the House of taking “appropriate action” in this regard before beginning of admissions in schools.  Malik from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) headed by Sharad Pawer also said that they are planning to make reservations in jobs. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is yet comment on the issue. he decision to bring 5% quotas is in tune with the common minimum programme of the ruling Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress government and will be implemented after taking legal opinion in the matter. Nawab Malik said the High Court had approved reservation in educational institutes the previous government had not taken any step in this regard. ‘We will implement HC order’’, he added.
