SC Turns down Congress Leader’s Petition on Staying Release of Biopic on PM Narendra Modi
INDIA’s Supreme Court on April 9 rejected a Congress leader’s plea seeking stay release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying “too much of court time is wasted on these non-issues”. A SC Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said it is a matter on the domain of the Election Commission of Commission of India. The Bollywood movie starring Vivek Oberoi playing the lead role is scheduled for release on Thursday when the first phase of the Lok Sabha election commences a day later, Congress. The apex court has observed that the petition is “premature” as the film was yet to be certified by the Censor Board. “We, therefore, do not consider it fit to entertain the petition”, said the three -member Bench. Congress Member of the Rajya Sabha and Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for Congress spokesperson Aman Pawar had argued that the film will vitiate level-playing field during the elections as four office-bearers of the BJP are the producers of the film.. The party has alleged that the film’s release close to the national election violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).Vivek Oberoi has tweeted after the court order. He also tweeted mocking Congress, wondering “if they are scared of the film or of Chowkidar’s danda”.The Congress promptly responded, saying it’s a “bogus film of a flop hero, a flop producer and is made on a flop person who has proved to be a zero.”(pic courtesy : MSN .com)
