MOUSHUMI Chatterjee joins BJP Sparking Speculation That She Intends To Contest Coming LS Poll

AMIDT Report suggesting noted Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit will be BJP candidate in Pune, veteran movie and TV star Moushumi Chatterjee has joined the saffron party. After making debut at the age of 11 in 1967   blockbuster  Balika Badhu directed by Tarun Majumdar, late husband of  Bangla actress  Sandhya Roy, who is now a TMC Parliamentarian. Moushumi is grand -daughter of a judge and daughter of an Indian Army Officer. She became one of the 6th highest paid actress of Hindi movies and the highest paid artiste of Bangla cinema.  Kolkata born Moushumi, daughter-in—law of legendary play back singer Hemanta Kumar Mukherjee famed as Hemant Kumar, claims to have worked with Mother Teresa. She formally joined the BJP on January 2 in the presence of party leaders Mukul Roy and Kailash Vijayvargiya in New Delhi. Reports suggest the yesteryear artist might contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well. Chatterjee was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku in 2015. She has shared screen space with lead actors Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra. She has acted in Hindi and Bengali cinema. In 2004, she had contested the Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate in Bengal. She had met with top BJP leaders in Delhi on Tuesday.”I want to work with the BJP,” she was quoted as telling reporters. Chatterjee also said that she was an admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After she was defeated in the Calcutta North-East constituency in 2004 as a Congress candidate , she apparently retreated from active politics. She lost to Left candidate Mohammad Salim.Rupa Ganguly,who portrayed  Draupadi  in  BR Chora’’s  magnum opus Mahabharata, joined the BJP in 2015. She is now a Rajya Sabha member. She worked with actors like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra and Vinod Mehra.  She is married to Jayant Mukherjee.They have two daughters, Payal and Megha. She started acting  in Bollywood movies after her marriage which was quite unusual for Indian women during that time. Moushumi had once said “After Balika Badhu, I was flooded with Bengali movies but I wished to complete my studies. However, movies were in my fate hence, when I was studying in class X, a close aunt of mine was on her death bed and her last wish was to see me married. Hence, to satisfy her wish, I got engaged to my guardian and neighbour Hemant Kumar’s son, Jayant Mukherjee whose nick name is Babu.“I fell in love with Babu. He was the first man I came in touch with outside my family.
