PRESIDENT Trump Postpones State Of Union Address amidst Nationwide Shutdown

U S President Donald John Trump has postponed delivering The State of the Union Address as mandated by the American Constitution   giving Information to the Congress on the State of the Union  and recommend Consideration such measures as he  judges necessary and expedient. U S Today says: The president’s Wednesday decision came across as a cordial announcement on his Twitter page shortly before midnight. That surprised some people, reports U S Today.”Why @realDonaldTrump did you give in to Pelosi on SOTU?” one man asked the president on Twitter. “I would hope this is part of the chess game. If this shutdown doesn’t result in wall funding, our party and our country will suffer severely in the next election.”The president has  taken the decision in the wake of partisan bickering and a nasty back-and-forth with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who uninvited Trump from giving the high-profile address due to the government shutdown .After Pelosi ‘s letter disinviting him from giving the address, Trump’s team started looking at alternatives. Some Republicans were pushing for the president to give his remarks in the Senate chambers instead of the House which is traditionally where the State of the Union addresses are held. The POTUS said he decided against another venue because that would be “very disrespectful” to the State of the Union and thought Pelosi’s request was “actually reasonable.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Democrats will block President Donald Trump from giving his State of the Union in the House chamber until the government is open. Earlier, Trump told Pelosi he would give his address as planned next week. The president then says he would comply with Pelosi’s request: “This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over.”The White House and Congress are struggling to break an impasse over the president’s demand for $5.7 billion to build his proposed border wall to prevent the exodus of   people from coming to the US for earning livelihood.US President Donald Trump announced late Wednesday he would give the State of the Union address after the ongoing government shutdown ends, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi effectively blocked him from delivering the annual speech in Congress.”As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address. I agreed,” the president tweeted.”She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over.” Trump also said he was not looking for an alternative venue because none “can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber,” adding he looked forwarded to giving a “‘great'” address “in the near future.” The partial government shutdown, caused by an impasse over Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion to build his proposed border wall, is the longest U.S. funding lapse ever. On Friday, about 800,000 federal workers will start missing their second pay checks since the closure began December  22, 2018. Democrats and some Republicans in the Senate have urged Trump to temporarily reopen the government while the White House and Congress negotiate a broader immigration deal. Trump has insisted on securing financing for the wall before he agrees to fund the government (with inputs from US media).
