SMRITI Irani Says Rahul Gandhi Will Lose His Amethi Lok Sabha Seat

BJP has announced Textiles Minister Smriti Irani as the party’s candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi where polling will be held on May 6. AICC President Rahul Gandhi is sitting Member of Lok Sabha from Amethi. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TV star –producer turned politician Smriti Irani, 42, a Rajya Sabha Member from Gujarat head contested against Gandhi from Amethi. Although she was unsuccessful in defeating him, Rahul Gandhi’s victory margin was reduced from some 3.70 lakh votes in 2009 to 1.07 lakh in 2014.Since then, she has visited the constituency several times.  Gandhi has faulted the ruling BJP government at the centre and state for taking away the big projects that he had lined up for Amethi.
“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief Amit Shah and all the senior leaders of the party for giving me the responsibility to contest Lok Sabha elections from Amethi. It would be a matter of pride for me to strengthen the BJP in parliament by offering a lotus from Amethi,” she tweeted in Hindi. Irani, born in Delhi to a Bong mother and Punjabi Khatri father, has married a Parsi businessman. BJP also named 27 other candidates from Uttar Pradesh in the list of 184 contenders for the Lok Sabha elections. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest from his current seat of Varanasi, BJP chief Amit Shah will replace party veteran LK Advani in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
