SUSHMITA Dev Commences Campaign For-Re-election To LS Amidst Protest

CONGRESS MP from Silchar Sushmita Dev has said that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be a fight between “anti-poor” and “anti-constitutional” Prime Minister Narendra Modi versus the “pro-people approach” of the Congress. Addressing a gathering of nearly 3,000 people at Madhurband, politically popular as Barakpar, a bastion of the Congress party in Cachar district, Sushmita,45, daughter of former Union Minister Sontosh Mohan Dev,was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014.”The message is clear; we are against the anti-constitutional Prime Minister.”A group of youths staged a protest demonstration and displayed black flags against the Silchar Parliamentarian shouting ‘Go back’ slogans accusing her of supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.Reacting to this, Sushmita said “everyone has the democratic right of expression. There are many views on the Bill and I stand with the views expressed by the Silchar District Congress before the JPC.”An alumnus of Delhis Miranda House, she is a Bar at Law and close to the AICC High Command(with inputs from the Assam Tribune)
