MANUFACTURING Industry Plays A Major Role In National Economy: Prof Hirani
A Seminar on Advance Manufacturing was jointly organized by the
CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur, and
EEPC India Technology Centre on 13th September’2019 at Kolkata. The seminar was
inaugurated by Prof. Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur, Ravi
Sehgal, Chairman, EEPC.
Addressing the august gathering, Professor Harish Hirani, Director, CMERI
said ” … manufacturing industry is back bone of major economies
around the world. And it can be the major source of job creation in the
countries like India. However, research & innovation is extremely important
in the manufacturing sector to have edge in both domestic & international market.
To boost the business of manufacturing sector in
India , the manufacturing facilities at CSIR-CMERI have been
augmented in terms of induction of manpower and machinery to provide complete
design & manufacturing solution to MSMEs. He also said ,”
Advance Manufacturing center in CMERI, Durgapur would provide hands on training
to improve the knowledge ,skill of the students & entrepreneurs and also
generate more jobs across the country especially MSME sector.”
Professor Hirani said “CMERI is
working not only on advance technology development in mechanical
engineering area but also working on new technologies to find solutions to
tackle air pollutions across in India. Scientist in CMERI are working to
develop advance agricultural machinery ,on site agricultural waste
management , urban township waste management , waste to energy solutions , non
-conventional energy like solar energy , e-tractors , e -vehicles . It is
developing solar powered automobile charging stations for both urban &
rural areas to support government effort to promote electric transports. Scientists
in CMERI are determined to give their best to take India into new era of
technological advancement in collaboration with industry. Scientists in CMERI
are working with scientists in other labs & research institutions under
CSIR to improve quality of life across India “
He also added that this seminar has provided a vibrant platform for sharing of
knowledge and information on advanced manufacturing facilities of CSIR-CMERI
among the people from the field of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering.
Earlier, Ravi Sehgal, Chairman,EEPC, said ” EEPC India as the implementing agency of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, EEPC India has opened in house Technology Centers at Bengaluru and now in Kolkata. CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur, will play a big role in the MSME sector in reaching out the global market with their advance manufacturing technologies and complete solution. The facilities of CMERI not only boost India’s export but also generate more jobs across the country especially the MSME sector. “
