AS expected,  JOE Biden soon after assuming office as the 46th POTUS, has committed to rejoin the Geneva headquartered  World Health Organization and the Paris climate accord. Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a crucial role alongside then  French President Hollande in convincing the nations with diverse interests about the necessity of making a consensus effort to combat climate change. .The Paris Agreement sets out a global framework to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. It also aims to strengthen countries’ ability to deal with the impacts of climate change and support them in their efforts. Then-President Donald Trump had walked out of the 2016  Paris climate accord signed by as many as 197 nations including the Obama Administration under the auspices of the United Nations terming it unfair to his country’s interest. On June 1, 2017, Trump said, “In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect the United States and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord,” adding “The bottom line is that the Paris accord is very unfair at the highest. Soon after Covid-19 outbreak, he also announced to come out of the WHO said it is PRC-centric and deliberately had not held China responsible to notify the rest of the world about the deadly ‘’China virus’’. Biden has signed 17 orders doing away with  Donald Trump’s policies on immigration, environment, economy and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has ended the ban on visitors from several Muslim-majority countries and halt the construction of the US-Mexico border wall, his aides told international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP). Wearing masks by citizens as protection against Coronavirus is mandatory under his regime. He will send a bill to Congress to revive immigration policies and pave the path for undocumented immigrants living in the US to gain citizenship. New Delhi is happy recalling that Biden has been a vocal proponent of friendly ties with India since he was vice-president under President Barack Obama for eight years. edited by PK Chakravarty.
