CPI (M) Says Bengal’s Ruling TMC Lacks Moral Right To Speak About Democracy
AFTER a grand show of strength demonstrated by Opposition led by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a Kolkata rally on Saturday, Communist Party of India ((Marxist), India’s major left force, has slammed the fiery politico saying she has no moral right to speak about restoration of democracy in the country. She has finished democracy and democratic institutions in her own state, it said. The Left Front despite invite to the rally stayed away from the great show ahead of Lok Sabha poll. The rally had brought together more than 25 top leaders from 23 parties. The Bengal CPI (M) has accused the Trinamool Congress for allegedly “destroying democracy and institutions” in the state and vowing to fight misrule of the BJP at Centre. Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary and politburo member Surya Kanta Mishra said the TMC and BJP were two sides of the same coin and share several “undemocratic traits”.”The TMC should not talk about restoring democracy in the country. They (TMC) themselves have destroyed democracy in the state and have subverted every institution in the state since it came to power in 2011,” Mishra said.”The way they conducted the last Panchayat polls is a blot on democracy,” adding what the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has been doing at the Centre since 2014, the TMC has been doing the same in West Bengal since 2011.The TMC as a political party has neither any respect for democracy not for the constitutional norms. Voicing ‘Delhi mein sarkar badal do’ (change the government at the Centre), Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday asserted that the “expiry date” of the Narendra Modi government was over and a united opposition will win in the coming general elections. Leaders of 22 opposition parties came together at the mega rally in Kolkata and declared to unitedly fight to oust the PM Modi government which had passed its “expiry date”. Earlier, veteran Congress leader and President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee Somen Mitra also lashed out at the TMC supremo calling her fascist and ruling out any electoral alliance.
