ONGC increases gas production in Tripura

State owned Oil and Natural Gas Commission has denied reports of shortage of natural gas  in Tripura .The oil giant has enhanced its production by 1 lakh standard cubic meter of  gas during the past one year. Apart from enhancing production, the target for drilling during the 2018-19 Financial Year has  been achieved three months before the deadline.“While a total 19 wells were targeted to explore during the current FY, the ONGC has fulfilled the target by December 31. Now, six more new wells will be explored in the current FY, said a senior officer. Remaining three months of current FY” at Sonamura GCS in Sepahijala district. The official statement is seen as a jibe at NEEPCO and OTPC’s wish for more gas to enhance their power generation capacity. He said ONGC would be able to collect gas from Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary by next one year as National Wildlife Board has already given the green signal for exploration of gas. Asked   about the entry of Vedanta Ltd in the State’s natural gas exploration sector, the Asset Manager said ONGC did not show much interest to get the contract. Vedanta has got exploration license for a small area at Kunjaban (279 sq km). ONGC will not be impacted by the private company; he added (pic courtesy to NElive.in).
