Rlys Plan To Provide Odour Free Bio-Toilets To Commuters
Minister for Railways Piyush Goal, Chartered Accountant turned politico,has confirmed that his ministry is proposing to go in for installing bio-toilets in close to 19,000 more coaches by March 2019.Yes on receipt of inputs of success of functioning of bio-toilets
installed in several other train coaches, we are planning to replace these with “upgraded” vacuum bio-toilets, Piyush Goyal disclosed his plan .This is part of our plan for passenger amenities,he added.
Funds are no problem for upgrading
passenger amenities.It is our focused area,Goyal added.His officials assert
as of May 31, 1,36,965 bio-toilets have been fitted in 37,411 coaches, at an expenditure of an estimated 1 lakh INR per toilet.
Close to ,250 crore INR will be incurred for installation of
bio-toilets in about 19,000 coaches before the end of 2018-19 Financial Year, claims his official.Responding
to a query regarding efffetivenes of bio-toilets, sources said these will ensure cleaner railway tracks across the country besides reducing expenditure on track renewal.
The vacuum toilets are odour-free, will cut down water usage by 1/20th and have much lesser chances of getting blocked, he added.
