The 4 accused for rape & murder of a vegetarian in Hyderabad killed in Police encounter: locals celebrate

The Centre has sought report from Telangana government On the “custodial killing” of Telangana veterinarian’s alleged four rapists. NHRC has decided to investigate the encounter as the parents of the victim and the local people celebrated the killing of the alleged rapists. The Cyberabad Police told media that the encounter took place around 6 am IST on Friday, 06 December 2019. There were about 10 police with the accused when they were brought to the crime spot,” Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said. “The four accused had been in police custody for 10 days. We had interrogated all of them. When they confessed committing the crime, we took them to the site where the incident occurred to reconstruct the scene. When we reached the spot the accused attacked us using stones and managed to snatch our guns. You can see that the accused are still lying there with the weapons. As a result, we had to engage in an encounter with them in which they were shot dead,” Sajjanar said.  Two police personnel were injured and the bodies of the four accused sent for post-mortem. They were taken to the crime scene to retrieve the victim’s belongings and the cell phone. When the police reached the spot, the accused attacked us using stones and managed to snatch our guns. “You can see that the accused are still lying there with the weapons. As a result we had to engage in an encounter with them in which they were shot dead,” CP Sajjanar said at a media briefing. Reacting to the police encounter in which four accused were killed  , President Ram Nath Kovind said there should be no mercy for rapists. National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that the 4 accused, arrested by the police in connection with the rape and murder of veterinarian doctor in Telangana, have died in an encounter with the police and will send a fact-finding team to the spot. Meanwhile,  Yoga guru Baba Ramadev has lauded the Hyderabad police for carrying out the “courageous” encounter. “The culprits deserved this; this is how they should be treated.” He said that justice in such cases should be delivered “on the spot” and that “all police personnel should adopt this method.”Responding to the killing of the rape accused in police encounter, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, lawyer turned politician, says, “As you sow so shall you reap…they tried to flee so police shot them.”  After the police confirmed the death of the four who allegedly raped and murdered a young vet in Hyderabad, questions were raised in the authenticity of the encounter, which the police said took place in wee hours between 3-6am. Lekhi brushed aside   speculation on the matter. “What is wrong with recreating a crime scene at 3am, that was the tentative time of crime,” she asked. Law will take its own course…FIR will be registered, an inquiry will happen into police action, but one hopes this will prove to be deterrent for future rapists,” she said “Had the Delhi govt swiftly disposed off Nirbhaya killers file, perhaps deterrent would have come earlier,” the BJP lawmaker told News 18.Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi says that it is a very “dangerous” incident to have happened. “Those people were in any case going to get hanging as punishment for the heinousness of their crime. But you cannot kill people because you want to,” she added. Left parties have however deplored the encounter as BSP supremo Mayawati lauded the encounter. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa backed the Telangana police action of killing the four accused saying they acted in self-defence. “They (accused) tried to attack and escape when they were taken to spot (of crime), so the encounter was inevitable to save their (police) lives,” he said.(image courtesy to caravandaily.com)
