Indian Super League and Football Sports Development Limited founder- chairperson Nita Ambani has welcomed legendary Indian football club Mohun Bagan AC joining the Indian Super League family as ATK Mohun Bagan FC. The Kolkata based  130-year old football club has finalized the nitty-gritty of merging with Sanjiv Goenka owned three-time ISL champions ATK FC with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly joining as a director. The new entity is gearing up to enter the upcoming ISL 2020-21 season. The first board meeting of the new club was held on Friday, July 10. The new soccer club has been christened as ATK Mohun Bagan FC. The iconic green and maroon colours of the Mohun Bagan jersey has been retained to ensure that the brand entity is upheld of the club which played a pioneering role in popularising the game in India. The logo retains its essence as mariners along with the green and maroon sails meaning Pal Tola Nauko in Bengal. “I am confident that this partnership will benefit football in our country and help us realise our dream of making India a football superpower,” Nita Ambani , said in a statement. It is a momentous chapter in the history of Indian sports. The new entity holds vast potential for not just West Bengal or Indian football but internationally too, as we endeavour to establish Indian clubs as strong players in AFC competitions, she added.” Nita Ambani says. Founded on 15th August,1889 as Mohun Bagan Sporting Club, it remains as one of the oldest football clubs in Asia. The club is most notable for its victory over East Yorkshire Regiment in the 1911 IFA Shield final.
