CSIR-CMERI Durgapur Celebrates 63rd Foundation Day

CSIR-CMERI Durgapur celebrated its 63rd Foundation Day with inauguration of Eco-Campus residential colony equipped with “Entry Gate Integrated CoVID Protection System” (COPS) and Mechanized Scavenging System by DG, CSIR and demonstration ofself-sustainable accommodation, aqua rejuvenation plant, best use of Biomass, Organic Farming, air purification system, integrated municipal solid waste disposal system with provision of disinfection of pathogens. This was followed by meeting with the higher officials of different Municipal Corporation, MSME Govt. of India & Govt. of West Bengal and deliberated with them on implementation of various technique developed by CSIR-CMERI viz. Drain Water Management, Waste Management, Compost manual, Waterlogging, Air purification and many other problems faced by the society. Announcement of names of the winners of National Essay Competition on “Innovative Application of CSIR-CMERI Technologies for benefit of the Masses” Ankita Verma from Bal Bharati Public School, Noida, UP secured the 1st prize, G. Harshith & Bablu Kumar secured 2nd position and Aprameya H. Nadig & Anchal Tomar secured 3rd Prize. The day also witnessed the Inauguration of ARMVT (Atma Ram Memorial Volleyball Tournament) & MGKMMCT.

CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute at Durgapur, West Bengal was established on 26th Feb, 1958 with the objective as to development of technology in the field of Mechanical Engineering and allied areas. On this occasion Director of CSIR-CMERI, Prof. (Dr.) Harish Hiranibrought before the audienc e various achievement made by CMERI and also appreciated the contribution of all the scientific, technical and administrative  staff of the Institute in improving the brand ‘CMERI’.  Prof. Hirani mentioned that CMERI is continuously working for the welfare of the Society and ready to provide technological solutions to the problems and challenges being faced by the Society.

Dr.Shekhar C Mande, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR, Govt. of India who was the Chief Guest of the occasion said that he was privileged to observe all the new technologies developed in CMERI, interaction with Farmers,  officials  of MSMEs & Municipal Corporation. Dr. Mande said “Ethos is the main principle on which any Organization works, which eventually makes a mark in the Society.” Dr Mande added that “Council of Scientific and Industrial Research” was established with the principles to develop Science and Technology for Society and has proved to be relevant in all the circumstances. He also appreciated CMERI for its achievement in last two years since his last visit and aspired to collaborate with the Industries, MSME and other labs of CSIR for the benefit of Society. The remarkable words by Dr.Mande which hits the heart of every CSIR employees was“It is CSIR which enjoys the confidence of peoples and industries, so if we do not do it who will do it.” It is the duty of CSIR to meet all the need and requirement of the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and make efforts towards Climate Change etc. Dr. Mande ended up his speech with a remarkable note “To remain in the forefront of technology there is a need to rediscover ourselves. ”Dr Mande showed the pride that CSIR guided in providing all kind of technical and Scientific solution to the Society during the COVID pandemic.

Dr.Arun Bandyopahdyay, Director CSIR-IICB also graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and appreciated CMERI for its innovative and sustainable technology developed in recent times. He said thatthe presence of CSIR was felt by the Society during COVID pandemic.

The DG, CSIR urged the Scientists, Researchers and all the staff members to come up with more innovative solutions to address the real issues being faced by the different sections of the Society.
