DUSU Election: ABVP Wins 3 Posts: NSUI Candidate Elected Secretary Defeating Left & AAP Candidates

RSS affiliated ABVP has  won  Delhi University Students’ Union’s (DUSU) three central panel posts while Congress’s NSUI emerged victorious in one.  The counting of votes was disrupted after some candidates complained about malfunctioning of some EVMs. It was resumed following the contesting parties mutually agreed to take the process forward. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad said the election results will help the general public and the media to gauge the mood of voters and also give an idea of what is the trend in national politics as India is in an election mood to elects some assembly and new Lok Sabha .ABVP won the posts of president, vice president and joint secretary while NSUI secured secretary post. NSUI’s Sunny Chhillar was defeated by ABVP’s Ankit Baisoya in the presidential election with a margin of 1744 votes while Shakti Singh, also from ABVP, was declared as the vice president after he won with a margin of 7673 votes. ABVP candidate Jyoti Choudhary has won the post joint secretary and NSUI candidate Akash Choudhary was elected in the post of secretary. In the presidential election, Baisoya polled 20,467 votes when NSUI’s Sunny finished runner up with 18,723 votes. In vice president election, Shakti Singh has been  elected with 23,046 votes while Leena of NSUI  polled 15,000.Choudhary, the lone winning candidate of the NSUI, alleged that fair elections were not conducted and data of seven EVMs were missing. The Chief Electoral Officer in Delhi Thursday clarified that the EVMs used in DUSU elections have not been issued by the Election Commission and it seems to have been procured privately.The four posts of president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary form the central panel, which is elected for one year.As the DUSU results were announced, celebrations broke out with bursting of crackers and loud cheering at the Kingsway camp counting venue. The supporters lifted the victorious candidates on their shoulders and posed for photos flashing the ‘victory’ sign. Hailing, BJP leader and former Union Minister Dr Subramaniam Swamy says youngersters   are committed to preserve Indian culture and traditions. They cannot be misled by anti-Hindutva forces , he added .North-east BJP leader Hemanta Biswa Sharma remarks ABVP victory as a reaffirmation for Modi government. Though it was expected to be a three-cornered contest between the ABVP, NSUI and the joint panel of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and AAP’s Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), the results reveal that the contest was between the ABVP and NSUI ,the  arch rivals in the central university  set up in 1922.The counting day remained in the middle of news for all the wrong reasons as some contesting outfits complained about faulty EVM’s. The counting, which began at 8 AM on Thursday, was suspended after members of NSUI and CYSS complained about EVM malfunction in some stations. The counting resumed following the contesting parties mutually agreed to take the process forward.
