THE  Maharashtra government engaged in fighting coronavirus pandemic has allowed metro trains in Mumbai to operate from October 15 in a phased manner under its mission ‘begin again’. However, no decision has been taken to reopen the places of worship despite the persistent demand of the Hindu community. The State government also allowed the reopening of all state-run and private libraries from Thursday as per  COVID-19 protocols. Business-to-business exhibitions from tomorrow outside containment zones. Local weekly bazaars, including that of animals, will also be allowed to reopen outside containment zones. With an aim to reduce crowd, markets and shops will be allowed to remain open for two additional hours till 9 pm from tomorrow. The government has decided to stop stamping domestic passengers arriving with indelible ink. Also, health check-ups and stamping of passengers at railway stations will also be stopped. Schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will remain closed till October 31. However, higher education institutions only for research scholars (PhD) and postgraduate students in science and technology stream for lab and experimental works will be permitted from October 15.
