MITHALI, Jhulan named for India’s England tour

WITH senior cricketers  Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami in the team, women cricketers  will hopefully  perform well in the upcoming test in  England . Mithali Dorai Raj is  a right-handed opening batter and occasional right-arm leg break bowler. The first women’s cricket One Day Internationals were played in 1973 as part of the first Women’s World Cup in England. Jhulan Goswami currently tops the list of all-time wicket-takers in women’s ODIs, having taken a total of 225 wickets in 186 matches for India between 2002 and 2021.The team is excited .“A few of them have toured England multiple times and they have a bit of experience. The tour comprises a one-off Test, three One-day Internationals, and three T20 Internationals in June-July. Former Indian Railways player Abhay Sharma has been named the fielding coach. A nine-member support staff headed by chief coach Ramesh Powar has been announced. Sundar Das, former Odisha Cricket Captain and India Opener, has been appointed only for this series. He had earlier worked with the India Women’s A team.The lone Test will begin in Bristol on June 16 and the tour will end with a T20I match on July 15.Whatever time we have, we will see how many training sessions we get and make sure we use them properly,”  said Shiv Sundar Das  .With the senior players are already exposed to  English ecosystem it won’t be very difficult to  perform overseas. The girls are getting an opportunity to play a Test match after a long time and it’s a good initiative that they are playing the longer format. Das  had played in the national team under the captaincy of Saurav Ganguly .He  played 23 Tests between 2000-02.He had been associated with the Bengaluru based National Cricket Academy for some years. He told PTI that his experience of having played league cricket in England will also prove to be very helpful. “It will help that I have played a lot of cricket in England, including International cricket and league cricket.
