MSP, Mandis continue, new farm laws give options, legal protection to farmers: PM Modi

DEFENDING the new farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said MSP -Minimum Support Price -for agriculture produce continues saying the laws are introduced for their benefit. The government not just wants to provide them new market opportunities but also wants to strengthen the Mandi system. He said that the Government is working with pure intentions and the Farmers of the country will lead the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Speaking for better prices than MSP at a gathering in Varanasi during his visit to his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister alleged that miscommunication is being spread about the reforms and said that a new trend has come up recently where opposition to any reform by his government is being done merely on speculations and misconception.PM Modi said that farmers must get an opportunity to sell their farm products in the market. If anyone wants to continue with the old system, he can do that. He said that earlier small farmers were not able to reach the market and now with the introduction of these laws, they have got many options to sell their product and also have legal security against any malpractice. If farmers are apprehensive about the reforms, it is because of the history of regular cheating by previous governments, PM Modi said alleging that in the name of farmers, many packages and projects were announced earlier but their benefits never reached the poor farmers.  The Prime Minister asserted that the NDA government has a proven track record of keeping promises. The Government is helping farmers and trying to increase their income by providing seeds, irrigation facilities, market and insurance cover to them. He said that the government has procured farmer’s products many times more than what was procured in the 5 years of UPA 2 regime. He said, even during the lockdown period, the government provided fertilizers to the farmers and also gave MSP according to the Swaminathan report. The Prime Minister alleged that the opposition has a tendency to spread miscommunication about policies of the government and they did the same with the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme.
