PM Modi, Tripura CM Biplab Deb, Maj Gen Bakshi mourn demise of Prof Chitra Ghosh

PROFESSOR Chitra Ghosh, niece of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has passed away at 90. She was the youngest daughter of Sarat Chandra Bose, elder brother of Netaji. Sarat Chandra Bose, an independence activist and member of the Interim Government headed by Jawaharlal Nehru. He was also confidante, friend, philosopher and guide of his younger brother Subhas Chandra Bose. Prof. Chitra Ghosh was a distinguished academic, a social scientist, and also a member of the Parliament. Paying tribute to her, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recalled ‘’Professor Chitra Ghosh made pioneering contributions to academics and community service. I recall my interaction with her, when we discussed many subjects including declassification of files relating to Netaji Bose. Saddened by her demise. Condolences to her family’ ’She was such a gentle and loving soul . I had accompanied The Bose Family to PM Modis residence and have such Fond memories of her Zeal for Netaji, said Major Gen (Dr) GD Bakshi, noted Netaji scholar. BJP leader Chandra Bose belonging to the illustrious Bose family said Chitra Bose was for several years associated with the West Bengal Government’s education department, Jadavpur University and several other institutions. Professor Chitra Ghosh had lived with her Uncle Subhas in her formative years at 1 Woodburn Park in Kolkata. She remembered Netaji as a larger-than-life presence in the Bose household and as a much-loved uncle and playmate for the Bose children, Chandra Bose recalled.
