PM Narendra Modi Will Seek Re-election To Lok Sabha From His Varanasi
BJP says it is not unduly disturbed following Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into the political arena of Uttar Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha poll due to be held in April-May. Asked to comment on the anointment of AICC President’ younger sibling as the General Secretary of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Spokesman said the BJP feels the increase in Congress “credibility” in the State would actually help the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The Congress party’s strategy would impact the SP-BSP alliance and not the ruling BJP. Asked about whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would contest from more than one seat, they said “The BJP Parliamentary Board would take a decision if it helps the party”. The speculation is that besides Varanasi, Modi may also contest from Odisha which will go to Assembly polls in 2019.Sources, however, confirmed that Modi’s first Lok Sabha constituency would be Varanasi in Eastern UP. There would be no age bar for the BJP candidates for contesting the coming LS polls. Many senior leaders were deprived of opportunity for contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections because of age bar. Several have of them turned rebels.
