PM Led Selection Panel on Appointment of CBI Chief Will Meet Again After First Meet Was Inconclusive

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi-headed selection committee, which met on Thursday, to decide about the next CBI Director, ended inconclusively   as Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and   Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge sought more details of the contenders for the post. “A list of eligible officers along with their dossiers was shared with the panel members. But no decision has been taken,” an official said requesting anonymity. He said another meeting of the panel will be called soon to finalise the name. The meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister’s residence, was attended by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, the other two members. The post of CBI head has been lying vacant since January 10 after the exit of Alok Verma. CJI and Kharge have asked career graph of the eligible candidates. The dossiers of the senior 70to 80 senior IPS officials were presented to the panel. Meanwhile, Delhi headquartered CBI is headed by M Nageshwar Rao and Special Director Rakesh Asthana has been moved out of the CBI and appointed of Director General, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
