Prez Kovind, PM Modi, HM Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi mourn Lal Ji Tandon’s demise

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passed away in Lucknow, his home town,  on Tuesday,  July 21 after a protracted illness. He was 85. Lalji Tandon, who was also Bihar Governor, was hospitalised in Lucknow on June 13. He is survived by his wife Krishna and three sons. A  former veteran BJP leader, he was one of the prominent faces of the saffron party in Uttar Pradesh for several years. He was a former MP from Lucknow and  Cabinet Minister in the state government. His son and Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government Ashutosh Tandon said that his last rites would be performed adhering to the COVID Guidelines amidst chanting of Vedic rituals in Lucknow. He requested everyone to pay homage to the leader while remaining at home. Uttar Pradesh Government has announced three- day state mourning. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed heartfelt condolences over the demise of Lalji Tandon. President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister  Narendra Modi and many other leaders have also condoled the passing away of Lal Ji Tandon. President Kovind said the nation has lost a legendary leader in the passing away of Lal Ji Tandon. Tandon combined cultural sophistication of Lucknow and acumen of a national stalwart. PM Modi said Lal Ji Tandon will be remembered for his services to the society. He said Lalji Tandon played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and made a mark as an effective administrator who always gave importance to public welfare. Expressing grief, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, Lalji Tandon’s long public life had been devoted to the service of the public. Home Minister Amit Shah said as a public servant, Lalji Tandon has left a deep impression on Indian politics and his death is an irreparable loss. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said Lalji Tandon was an exemplary human who stood by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was Vajpayee Ji’s mentor. He was also close to BSP supremo Mayawati whom he called sister.
