WEST Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has demanded a  thorough probe into the death of  BJP MLA Debendra Nath Roy, 61, to unravel the truth about alleged political violence in the state. Tagging West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he has tweeted  “Political violence and vendetta shows no signs of abating’’. Death of Debendra Nath Roy, elected from Hemtabad (Reserved ) in Uttar Dinajpur District, raises serious issues including allegations of murder. “Need a thorough impartial probe to unravel the truth and blunt political violence,” he added. MP from Uttar Pradesh Varun Gandhi says “the ghastly murder of  BJP MLA Debendra Nath Ray shows how much blood of our workers is being spilled every day in Bengal. I appeal to the people of Bengal not to be victims/bystanders to this brutality & join the struggle for peace & self-respect to usher in the BJP regime in West Bengal”. The body of Debendra Nath Ray was found hanging on the morning of July 13 in Bindal village near his home. BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda says ‘’The suspected heinous killing of Debendra Nath Roy, BJP MLA from Hemtabad in West Bengal, is extremely shocking and deplorable. This speaks of the Gunda Raj & failure of law and order in the Mamta govt. People will not forgive such a govt in the future. We strongly condemn this.’’ Roy was earlier a CPI(M) MLA but had changed camp and joined BJP in 2019. Roy had joined the saffron party in Delhi in presence of senior BJP leaders. Police claimed to have found a suicide note from the pocket of Roy. The note mentions the names of two persons and reads, “these two people are responsible for my death”. The names are not being shared by the police as their role needs to be investigated. A local enquiry has revealed that he had financial dealings with these two persons named in the note. He had recently sold 6-7 bighas of land due to financial crisis. However, police yet to comment whether it is a suicide or a murder as Post Mortem report is awaited, report some WB  media. His family suspects foul play.
