ADEQUATE arrangements made at LAC to tackle China’s misadventure: Gen Rawat

What is the difference between LOC and LAC?

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has said the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh remains tense. China’s PLA is facing unanticipated consequences for its misadventures in Ladakh because of firm responses by Indian forces. General Rawat said, India’s posturing is unambiguous and the country will not accept any shift in the Line of Actual Control. Border confrontations and unprovoked military actions spiralling into a larger conflict can’t be discounted. Speaking at a webinar organized by the National Defence College, he said, as India grows in stature, security challenges will also rise proportionately. The Chief of Defence Staff asserted that the country must move out of the constant threat of sanctions or dependency on individual nations for military requirements. The country is investing in building long-term indigenous capability for strategic independence to squarely meet present and emerging challenges. The alleged that Pakistan continued to promote proxy war through cross-border terror. He stressed the need for taking strong global action against those who are sponsoring terrorism. There is a need to take the bull by its horns and strike at the root cause, he said at Raisina Dialogue 2020. There has to be diplomatic isolation of those sponsoring terrorism and any country sponsoring terrorism has to be taken to task. A country cannot have partners who on the one hand are partnering in the global war on terrorism and sponsoring terrorism on the other hand. He added, as long as there are states which sponsor terrorism, there will be terrorism and we will have to live with this menace, General Rawat said. There is a need to take the hard-line approach in dealing with terrorism, the way US adopted after 9/11 declaring a global war on terror. He said, blacklisting by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is one of the good measures to restrict the terrorism. Images courtesy to jagaranjosh.com
