CM Mamata Banerjee continues as Home & Health Minister

IN Mamata  Banerjee headed  Trinamool Congress Government, Bengal’s first lady Chief Minister retains most of the portfolios she has been handling with Amit Mitra as the Finance Minister. In addition to Home and Health portfolios, CM will be in charge of Land and Land Reforms, Information and Cultural Affairs and North Bengal Development departments. Her focus will also be North Bengal where the principal Opposition is making headway. In all, 24 Cabinet Ministers and 10 Ministers of State with independent charge and nine Ministers of State have been appointed. The Council of Ministers includes party veterans and new faces. Senior Trinamool Congress leaders like Subrata Mukherjee, Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas and Sashi Panja, who held important portfolios in the first two terms of the party, continue as  Cabinet Ministers. Eight women have been included in the Council of Ministers. With them, the representation of females with CM  now totals nine ministers. The Council of Ministers includes seven members of the minority community which has massively supported  TMC  in the just-concluded assembly elections ditching Congress and the Left. The Cabinet represents MLAs from 20 out of 23 districts of the State.FM Amit Mitra,73, who skipped elections citing poor health and Mamata Banerjee are constitutionally manded to get elected to the state legislative assembly within six months. Two assembly elections have been deferred by The Election Commission of India due to the deaths of 2 candidates. The elections in Jangipur and Samserganj were adjourned due to the death of the Congress candidate in Samserganj and the RSP candidate in Jangipur.
