FLIGHT, sailing operations resume from Andaman & Nicobar Islands

DOMESTIC flight operations have been resumed from Andaman & Nicobar Islands after two months with the arrival of a flight of the Indigo Airlines at  Port Blair from Chennai on Monday, May 25. The Andaman and Nicobar is again connected with the mainland as the flight landed in Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair with 85 passengers. In all, 91 passengers boarded the flight while returning for Chennai. All the passengers were screened at the airport. Director, Health Services, Dr. Omkar Singh said that all the passengers returned are healthy and found asymptomatic. Passengers were asked to give their details and inform them if any symptoms found later. They were also asked for self-quarantine. Along with this, M V Nancowry will sail for Chennai tomorrow at 5 P.M. About 250 stranded passengers have registered themselves for the journey. All airlines, including Air India, have started ticket bookings for onwards travelling by the civil aviation department, giving a go-ahead to airlines to resume domestic air activities. Bookings had started from May 22 after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation approved the schedule of the airlines. The flight services are beginning after a gap of two months as all flights were cancelled from March 25 owing to the total lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Flight operations will be commencing in Port Blair with Indigo Airlines to operate daily flights from Kolkata and Chennai. The list of cities where flight operations will commence are Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Dibrugarh, Goa, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Raipur, Srinagar, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Varanasi, Agartala, Aizawal, Bhopal, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Nagpur, Patna, Port Blair, Silchar, Vadodara, Vijayawada, Amritsar, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Gorakhpur, Indore, Kannur, Kolhapur, Imphal, Kozhikode, Madurai, Mangalore, Rajahmundry, Ranchi, Shirdi, Surat, Tirupati, Trichi, Tuticorin, Udaipur, Vadodara, Vizag, Adampur, Belgaum, Dharamshala, Durgapur, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Jharsuguda, Krishnagar, Kandia, Kanpur and Porbandar. In addition to the flights commencing operations with effect from 25th May 2020, the GOI/ MHA has also given approval for the transportation of stranded personnel. Sailings to Vishakapatnam and Kolkata will be scheduled subsequently, subject to clearance from the respective states and availability of vessels.
