Kolkata Metro has started running additional services and extended timings of its services from today. Kolkata Metro will run 204 daily services instead of 190 from Monday to Saturday, said Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. Services will be available in every 7 minutes during morning and evening peak hours. For senior citizens, ladies and children below 15 years, e-pass will not be required throughout the day. For all other passengers, e-pass will not be required in between 7 AM to 8.30 AM in the morning and 8 PM onwards in the evening. No token will be issued and only Smart Card shall be used. Piyush Goyal commended Kolkata Metro for extending its services. The first service will start from both ends from Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash at 7 AM IST instead of 8 AM IST  and from Noapara at 7.09 AM IST  instead of 8.09 AM IST as more and more economic activities being reopened post Covid-19 lockdown. The last service will leave Kavi Subhash and Dum Dum at  9.30 PM instead of 9 PM and from Noapara at 9.25 PM instead of 08.55 pm.  It may be recalled India’s oldest metro under the Ministry of Railways Kolkata Metro is a rapid transit system serving Kolkata and as of July 2020, it has two operational lines, a 27.22 km line from Noapara to Kavi Subhash and a 7.205 km line from Salt Lake Sector V to Phoolbagan, for a total of 34.425 km. The dream project of West Bengal’s visionary Chief Minister Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was completed on October 24, 1984 braving  several unsurmountable problems.
