LOTUS Blooms In Tripura: BIPLAB Kumar Deb Sworn As CM of Tripura With Jishnu Debbarma As Dy CM

TRIPURA State Bharatiya Janata Party’s president Biplab Kumar Deb,48, was on Friday sworn in by Governor Tathagata Roy as the 10th Chief Minister of the north-eastern state in the presence of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP’s President Amit Shah , National General Secretary of the party Ram Madhav and other dignitaries . Senior BJP leader Jishnu, Debbarma belonging to Tripura Royal family, is Deputy CM. He was head of the BJP’s Tribal wing. Biplab Kumar Sarkar’s   predecessor Manik Sarkar, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal also sat through the historic event. The Left Front boycotted the ceremony alleging that the saffron party has perpetrated large-scale violence on its members after its electoral victory. The BJP-IPFT combine swept the Assembly election last week winning 43 seats in the 60-member House. Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP’s National General Secretary Ram Madhav personally invited Manik Sarkar, 69, who had headed the state government for 20 years, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet. Assam’ Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, one of the principal strategists in NE, BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were also present. Amit Shah visited Maa Tripura Sundari temple ahead of swearing-in. I took blessings of Maa Tripura Sundari in Udaipur (Tripura) and prayed for the well-being of our citizens. With Maa Tripura Sundari’s blessings, an era of development and progress will now begin in the state of Tripura, he added. Tripura Sundari Temple incidentally is believed to be one of the holiest Hindu shrines.  Popularly known as Matabari, crowns in a small hillock and is served by the red-robed priests who traditionally, minister to the mother goddess Tripura Sundari. Considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, consists of a square type sanctum of the typical Bengali hut. It is believed that Sati’s right foot fell here during Lord Shiva’s Dance. It was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 A.D; there are two identical images of the same deity inside the temple. They are known as Tripura Sundari (5 feet high) and Chhotima (2 feet high) in Tripura. The idol of Kali is worshiped at the temple of Tripura Sundari in the form of ‘Soroshi’ meaning 16-year-old unmarried girl. One is made of kasti stone which is reddish black in colour. It is believed that the idol was Chhotima was carried by king in battlefield .Noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore had cordial relations with the Tripura Royals and visited Tripura several times. Biplab Kumar Deb is a long-time RSS volunteer. An opinion poll has conducted by BJP has revealed Biplab Kumar Deb was more popular in the state than Manik Sarkar, who along with wife leads a Spartan live and does not own any property. He was made the party’s state president after replacing the longest-serving BJP chief in the state. Biplab Kumar Deb spent his childhood in Tripura before moving to New Delhi to complete his studies. He has won the Banamalipur assembly seat by a margin of 9,700 votes by defeating Left Front’s Amol Chakravarty. The seat was previously held by the Congress. Biplab Kumar Deb will be the youngest Chief Minister of India at present after Maharashtra’s Devendra Fadnavis. The boycotted the swearing-in ceremony in protest. Left leader Bijan Dhar accused BJP workers of attacking 400 party offices, 85 of which were torched and 315 forcibly occupied. Moreover, 600 Left supporters are said to have been assaulted physically and more than a thousand their shops, houses and vehicles burnt, he further alleged. “Today is a historic day for Tripura. It feels like the state is celebrating Diwali. We are lighting the lamp for progress and prosperity. There is new vigour and enthusiasm here. I congratulate all those who have taken oath and wish them the very best as they begin their work”, says PM Modi. Late Father of Biplab Deb was associated with Jana Sangh and Biplab had returned to Tripura after residing for 15 years in Delhi. The Marxists had ruled Tripura, the third smallest state in the country and spreading over 4,051 sq mi flanked by Bangladesh, Assam, and Mizoram. The state’s population is estimate at 3 lakh comprising Bengali Hindus emerging as the majority after they lost their homeland across the border in the wake of India’s partition in 1947. Schedule tribes account for about 30 per cent of the population. There are 19 tribes and various sub tribes in the sensitive border state.PM Modi has accorded top priority for the socio-economic development of NE where connectivity and infrastructure are the main problems.
