OXFORD BOOKSTORE celebrates World Book & Copyright Day

Oxford Bookstore celebrates World Book and Copyright Day through week-long online reader engagement programs

The nearly 100-years-old Oxford Bookstore being ’much more than a bookstore’ engages the global audience through a week-long programme on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day.  The bookstore had earlier launched several Social Media initiatives like Oxford Bookstore LIVE on the official Facebook Page, The Reader Challenge Series, Book Readings and Author Recommends, to boost up the morale of the readers.  The activities received tremendous response from international authors like Andrew Sean Greer and renowned personalities like Amish Tripathi, Vivaan Shah, Yashica Dutt, Saurabh Shukla, Andrew Sean Greer, Naseeruddin Shah and others. It has reached out to global readers and held them together through their common love for books. Oxford Bookstore is curating online sessions of various kinds – storytelling, art, poetry, dance – through Oxford Bookstore LIVE on the official Facebook Page to reduce the distance between the audience and the facilitator. Amish Tripathi, author of the Shiva Trilogy would be in conversation with the readers on 21 April. The bookstore has tied up with Westland Books and would be hosting interactive sessions with Kavita Kané, bestselling author on 23 April, Revati Laul, author and independent journalist on 24th April and Arunava Sinha, renowned author-translator on 26th April. Jimmy Tangree would be going LIVE on 23 April with his famous show Direct Dilse. A bookmark-making workshop will be held in association with Papercup facilitated by Somrwita Guha, Founder, Papercup on 25th April.  Apurva Purohit, author of Lady You’re the Boss! would be addressing the readers on 27th April while Kunal Basu would be going LIVE on 28th April. 

The Reader Challenge Series presents two unique initiatives where book lovers can have fun. The Mid-Week Muse is for the writers as every week a new kind of writing challenge is thrown open to the readers. Snapped! is for the camera-friendly booklover where every week a new photo challenge is given. The Book Reading Series hosted two popular Speaking Tiger authors- Ruskin Bond who read out poems from I Was the Wind Last Night: New and Collected Poems and Nasez Afroz who read out excerpts from Land Far From Home. Keeping in mind the reader’s interest, Oxford Bookstore has initiated the Author Recommends series where writers and eminent personalities like Andrew Sean Greer, Simran Chawla, Yashica Dutt, Ramanjit Kaur, Siddartha Sarma, Aanchal Malhotra, Vikas Jha and other, have listed their top picks for the readers. Recommendations of noted editors like David Davidar (Aleph),  Priya Kapoor (Roli Books),  and younger ones like Esha Chatterjee (BEE Books) and Trisha Niyogi (Niyogi Books) have made a mark with the readers. The bookstore has also launched the Influencer Recommends series where some of the top city and national influencers would be listing their picks. Besides these activities, Oxford Bookstore is also curating ‘Lockdown Reading lists’ with brief reviews. These have been made keeping in mind the diverse interest areas of readers and have included thrillers, autobiographies, ghost stories, cookbooks and more.  Other activities include book bingo, fun book posters, music sessions on bhajan, ghazal, quiz and others. These online endeavors have been supported by various authors and institutions. Authors and eminent personalities like Saurabh Shukla, Vivaan Shah, Bulbul Sharma, Shrabani Basu, Manu Pillai, Naseeruddin Shah, Ananya Bajpeyi, Kavita Kané, Prajwal Parajuly, , Saikat Majumdar, Namita Gokhale, Shutapa Paul, Shahenshah Mirza, Koel Purie, Saira Shah Halim, Anjana Basu, Anuja Chandramouli, Shabri Prasad Singh, Nita Bajoria, Devika Das, Vishes Kothari, Sourabh Mukherjee and Rajat Chaudhuri have been previously hosted on Oxford Bookstore LIVE, Book Reading Series or Author Recommends segment.  The bookstore had collaborated with Scholastic for a storytelling session by Chitralekha Bhaskar; Wild Strawberry for a storytelling session by Priyanka Chatterjee; Joie Bose, Founder, Poetry Paradigm for a poetry reading and writing workshop; Sohini Roy Choudhury, Dancer and Founder Sohini Moksha for storytelling through dance workshop and Niti Kumar, Senior Vice President Marketing, Digital and Communications, Penguin Random House for a workshop on book marketing. Oxford Bookstore will have more such, Oxford Bookstore LIVE sessions, Book Reading and Author Recommends to engage the consumers.
