Former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi passed away Monday due to multi-organ dysfunction. He was 86.’’ The octogenarian Congress leader, who undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital for post-COVID complications, died at 5:35 pm’’, Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sharma told reporters. He is survived by  Dolly Gogoi, wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and grand-children. His son Gaurav Gogoi, 38, is Congress Party’s Lok Sabha Deputy Leader. Gogoi was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to ICU on November 1 for the second time after he recovered from COVID-19. Gogoi was six-term MP and three-time chief minister of Assam. Tarun Gogoi remained Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016, making him the longest serving chief minister of the state for fifteen consecutive years. Gogoi guided the Indian National Congress to three consecutive electoral victories in the state. He did his primary schooling from No.26 Rangajan Nimna Buniyadi Vidyalaya. He completed his LLB from Gauhati University, Assam in 1963.He had a political career spanning over 50 years and assumed varied positions within the Congress party, central government as well as Assam’s state administration. Born on April 1, 1936, into an ethnic Assamese Tai-Ahom family at Rangajan Tea Estate located in erstwhile Sivasagar district now Jorhat district of Assam. His father, Dr Kamaleshwar Gogoi was a medical practitioner at the tea estate while his mother, Usha Gogoi, was known for her collection of poetry.
