AMID  conflicting versions about the tragic death of a Dalit girl in Bulgadi village of Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recommended a CBI probe into the incident. In a tweet, the Chief Minister said he has recommended a CBI probe in all aspects linked to the Hathras episode. The state government is determined to ensure the harshest punishment for all those responsible for this incident, he added. The 19 year- old- girl died of her grievous injuries in the early hours of Tuesday at a Delhi hospital, a fortnight after she was attacked by a group of men. Four accused have been nabbed. The UP  government had earlier ordered an SIT inquiry into the incident. The Chief Minister has suspended Hathras superintendent of police and three other police officers for negligence and tardy investigation in the case. He also ordered “narco-analysis polygraph tests” to be conducted on everyone involved in the case. As SIT  is finalizing recording statements of the bereaved family, Upper caste Hindus are demanding action against the family for defaming them. Following the removal of the restriction, Congress leaders led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the victim girl’s mother on October 3. A TMC delegation led by Derek O’Brien was refused to meet the family one day earlier. The Hathras incident has sparked off nationwide outrage following media reports of her cremation allegedly without her family’s consent at the dead of night on September 29 by the local police.
