INDIA’S Men’s hockey team defeats Germany in Tokyo, bags bronze
THURSDAY , August 5 will remain a memorable day for every Indian following their Men’s Hockey Team bringing home the coveted bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics after trouncing Germany, a mighty hockey nation .’’ With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team’’ as rightly said PM Narendra Modi who watched the game on TV skipping his scheduled Yoga exercise. Indian men’s hockey team clinches first Olympic medal in 41 years beating Germany 5-4 to win the bronze . Meanwhile, Germany missed the podium in the men’s tournament for the first time since Sydney 2000. The waiting for 4 decades ended by sheer determination, hard work & perseverance of the Indian hockey players. Simranjeet Singh was the star of the game for India with a brace in the 17th and 34th minute. While, Hardik Singh (27th minute), Harmanpreet Singh (29th minute) and Rupinder Pal Singh (31st minutes) scored the other three goals for India. Indian men’s hockey team displayed a great game of counter-attacking play. India’s last of the eight Olympic golds came way back in the 1980 Moscow Games. Germany’s goals were scored by Timur Oruz (2nd), Niklas Wellen (24th), Benedikt Furk (25th) and Lukas Windfeder (48th). Millions of Indians watched on TV tears and hugs on the field after the Indians led by Manpreet Singh and coached by Australian Graham Reid joined the historic moment on the field.
