PM Modi assures taxpayers faceless assessment, fair, courteous, rational behavior by tax officials

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the tax system in the country is becoming faceless to give the tax-payer a feeling of fairness and fearlessness. Launching Transparent Taxation – Honouring the Honest platform through video conferencing in New Delhi on August 13, Modi said, tax administration should solve problems instead of confusing the tax-payer using technologies. Rules should be simple. Identities of the tax-payer and tax-officer should not matter at all. Modi said the effort is to make the tax system seamless, painless and faceless. Honest taxpayers play an important role in nation-building. While it is the responsibility of tax officers to deal with taxpayers with dignity, people should also consider paying taxes as their obligation to the nation. Tax Payers Charter is a big step in the development journey of the nation, Modi said. In the last 6 years since the NDA came to power at the center, the Government is focused on Banking the Unbanked regions. India now is seen a new model of governance developing in tax administration, Modi said. It is the new governance model of new India yielding good results. Looking at the government’s commitment towards reforms, the confidence of foreign investors is also increasing continuously in India resulting in record Foreign Direct Investment (FDR) even when India is engaged in containing  COVID-19 pandemic, Modi said.
