ROSNI Nadar Malhotra becomes 1st lady to head an Indian IT company
Roshni Nadar Malhotra,38, stated to be India’s wealthiest woman, has taken over as the chairperson of the Noida based HCL Technologies following the retirement of her father Shiv Nadar, 75,founder-Chair of the $9.9-billion IT company. Nadar-Malhotra has become the first woman chairperson of an Indian IT services company. The company said in the regulatory filing that the Board of Directors has appointed Roshni Nadar Malhotra, the only issue of Shiv and Kiran Nadar, Non-Executive Director as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors in place of Shiv Nadar following his desire to step down from his position, says a statement. Born at Thiruchendur in Tamil Nadu, Shiv Nadar, with net worth 1,580 crores USD , headed the global organization with over 150,000 professionals operating from 49 countries. The company is India’s third-largest IT services organization. Shiv Nadar is credited with being one of the pioneers of the computing and IT industry in India. Under his guidance, HCL has continued to ride the waves of the changing IT landscape for over 40 years, remaining at the forefront of every technological revolution since 1976. While HCL started off as a hardware organization, manufacturing the country’s first indigenous computers and introducing them to the Indian consumer, it eventually evolved into a more comprehensive software services organization. HCL is one of the few global IT companies founded in the 1970s that remains in existence to date, says his website. Roshni is married to Shikhar Malhotra who serves as the Executive Director and CEO of HCL Enterprise. She was ranked 51 in the Forbes Power List 2018 and has been involved in philanthropic works through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. In recognition of his pioneering role in business and philanthropy in India and across the globe, Shiv Nadar has received several honours and accolades including the Padma Bhushan. Iran Nadar his spouse, is an Asian Games medallist and internationally renowned bridge player besides being one of the largest Indian Art collectors in the world.
