Supriya Sule in a soup over poll affidavit

Income Tax authorities are probing  Supriya Sule, Nationalist Congress Party’s Lok Sabha Member from Maharashtra,  under the Black Money Act. Supriya Sule had allegedly concealed her total assets in the affidavit filed for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, said Times Now. The Congress party, which is a partner with NCP and the Shiv Sena government in the state, said it is nothing but political vendetta. The case has been sent by the Income Tax authorities for further investigation under the Black Money Act, said the news channel  Sule, 51, daughter of noted opposition leader and founder chief of NCP Sharad Pawar, had stated no discrepancies in her assets and liabilities before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “This is another example of intimidation tactic. The ED, CBI and all these agencies have lost their credibility under this government primarily because this government has used these agencies at their will,” AICC Spokesperson Pawan Khera said. Central agencies reported discrepancies in Sule’s affidavit and in a complaint filed against her, the NCP leader was accused of not declaring her husband Sadanand Sule’s shareholder details in two Singapore-based companies. The Election Commission of India took cognisance of the complaint and wrote to the Income Tax Department and Tax Department and the Union Finance Ministry, and sought a probe into the matter. ON September 20, 2020, NDTV  reported the Election Commission is learnt to have reminded the Central Board of Direct Taxes of its request to probe allegations of false affidavits filed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his minister son Aaditya Thackeray and  Supriya Sule, sources told news agency PTI. The complaints were referred to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) a month ago and a reminder has been sent recently, they said. The CBDT has been requested to verify the assets and liabilities filed as part of their election affidavits. Uddhav Thackeray, incidentally, is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
