UK virus: Govt says need NOT panic

FOLLOWING 20  UK new variant of COVID -19 cases detected till Wednesday morning in India and over 300  UK returnees remain untraceable, Hyderabad Based CSIR-CCMB Director Dr Rakesh K Mishra said there is no need to panic about the new Corona Variant. He urged the people to be careful and take measures to prevent the spread of the virus .The COVID vaccine development programmes many not be affected due to the new variant. There is no evidence that the variant will affect those who are already infected by Corona and recovered, reports AIR. Underlining that people should take all measures like maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and using sanitizer, he said if the preventive measures were ignored, there could be trouble again in highly populous countries like India. Advocating for a strong surveillance mechanism to be put in place, Dr Mishra said a Coordination team involving about 10 national Laboratories has been formed. The government has meanwhile extended the temporary suspension of flights to and from the UK till 7th January 2021.  Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly.  Earlier, all flights originating from the UK to India were suspended till 31st of this month. The Health Ministry has recommended to the Ministry of Civil Aviation the extension of the temporary suspension of flights originating from UK into India to be further extended till 7th January  2021.images courtesy :Times Now
